Siruguppa is a small town located in Bellary District of Karnataka State. This town is also spelled as Siraguppa. This small town of Karnataka is also nicknamed as “the Land of Paddy” as majority of rice is exported from this town. History Of SIRUGUPPA ?
History of this region dates back to the era of the Mauryan Rulers. In this region, inscriptions of King Ashoka have been found. This region has been ruled by dynasties like Vijayanagara , Chalukyas, Bahamani Sultans and the Nizams of Hyderabad. This town has derived its name from two words – Siri means wealth and Kuppe means plenty or abundant. So, the meaning of this word is pile of wealth. Siruguppa reached its prosperity during the reign of Vijayanagara Kings.
Siruguppa became a Taluka in the British India after taking 46 villages from Bellary Taluka, 23 villages from Alur Taluka and 29 villages from Adoni Taluka. Later on, Siruguppa Taluka was abolished in 1923 but again it became a Taluka in the year 1929.

This town is surrounded by Bellary Taluka in the south, by Hospet Taluka in the west, Adoni Taluka of Andhra Pradesh in the east and Sindhanoor Taluka in the north. River Tungabhadra is flowing around this town from north-west. Siruguppa is located at a distance of 63 KM northwards from Bellary, the district headquarters. The temperature of Siruguppa rises up to 42 Degrees Celsius during summers and during winters, the temperature is about 26 Degrees Celsius. The total area of this town is 31.14 sq km.

Siruguppa is known for its huge production of paddy. Its close proximity to River Tungabhadra is the reason of flourishing agriculture in this area. Siruguppa along with Gangavati and Sindhanoor is called “Land of Paddy”. The industries of Siruguppa are based on its agricultural products. This town houses more than 90 rice factories. The town also has many oil factories and a sugar factory.
